Classic song "Manaro" reborn in Vanuatu amid volcano evacuation effort(Bindi Bryce)

The crisis evacuation from Ambae has caused plenty of headaches for authorities in Vanuatu, but it's also led to the revival of a hit song from the 1990's about the island's unstable volcano.

In 1996, when the Manaro volcano last raised alarm bells, a policeman from Ambae Island wrote the lyrics to "Manaro", and it was sung by Ni-Vanuatu musician Joe Nare Mete.

With the Manaro volcano getting dangerous again recently, there's been a renewed interest in this song which Joe Mete had coincidentally decided at the start of the year to re-release as a music video for his upcoming DVD album.

Now he and his colleagues are staging a campaign to raise funds to help the Ambae Islanders who have been evacuated to Santo, Maewo and Pentecost Island.

Joe Mete hopes that the "Manaro" song will give some comfort to the people of Ambae and remind them that they will be able to go back to their homes.
