A converted redbrick court house with colourful, contemporary interiors is available to buy or rent in the up-and-coming west London town of Acton.

The beautifully presented three-bedroom home spans nearly 2,000 square feet and is jam-packed with luxury finishes, from on-trend grey kitchen units to his and hers sinks carved from volcanic rock in an elegant master en-suite.

Built in the early 1900s in the Queen Anne style, Acton Magistrates' Court closed in 2011 and was divided into seven properties. This property incorporates the front entrance and first floor attic level of the court house, making it reasonable to assume that it originally formed the grand entrance hall.

The basement properties in the building were left with original court benches and cell doors in tact, should owners wish to retain some of its history. Most residents, however, have put their own stamp on the interior design.

The entrance to this property is through an original wrought iron gate and an oversized blue front door. Once inside, a hallway boasts floor-to-ceiling storage and leads to a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining room with a wood burning stove and copper light fittings.

The reception room is hidden behind a stunning antique Asian screen imported from Shanghai and there are two double bedrooms, a wet room with its own steam room and a terrace area, also on the ground floor.

The fabulous master bedroom is reached by a specially designed spiral staircase. The spectacular vaulted ceiling gives the huge room its wow factor and bi-folding doors open onto a private south-facing roof terrace.

Masterful: The huge master bedroom steals the show on the top floor

The storage and bed unit have been crafted from bespoke mahogany and there is glamorous separate dressing room and en-suite bathroom.

The house is on the market for a guide price of £1.4 million with no onward chain, or it can be let for £921 per week (£3,991 per month).

The current owner, Viktor Meng, is of east Asian origin and has lived in the property for two years. He refurbished it himself over the course of a year and a half, taking design inspiration from the hotels he has stayed in during holidays to Bali and Thailand to create a refuge in the city.

Contemporary: Grey kitchen units and copper light fittings are bang on trend

Mr Meng is selling up ahead of a move to Singapore. He believes the property would best suit a young professional or a couple without children as the open-plan layout does not allow for as much privacy as other family homes. He does, however, note that the walls can be easily moved to give the buyer the opportunity to "play with the space".

Robert Podgorny, Lettings Director at the Acton branch of Robertson Smith & Kempson estate agents, describes the house as an "incredibly unique piece of local history in a beautiful building that will appeal to those of a more colourful character who want to stand out".

"Acton and Chiswick are not short of Victorian and Edwardian homes by any stretch," says Podgorny. "This property represents something different to the Victorian terrace properties that are so common in the area."

The house on Salisbury Street is a five-minute walk from Acton Central station for the Overground and under a mile from Acton Town station for the Piccadilly and District lines. From December 2019, Crossrail will offer speedy routes into central London and Canary Wharf.

The green space of Acton Park is also close by, as is Chiswick High Road with its wide range of shops and restaurants. The exclusive Park Club with its gym and leisure facilities is half a mile away while Ark Priory Primary School, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, is on the doorstep.
