DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/ 08 September) – A 6.3-magnitude earthquake of tectonic origin hit parts of Davao Region at 3:16 pm on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the quake’s epicenter was located 14 kilometers northeast of Manay, Davao Oriental and had a depth of 28 km.
The temblor was felt in Davao City and neighboring areas.
Phivolcs said it expected no damage.
But later in the afternoon, the Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt Gen Benjamin Madrigal said the 701st Infantry Brigade reported that four houses were partially damaged near the city hardware and slaughter house at Barangay Central in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
No casualty was reported, Madrigal said in a text message to MindaNews, adding the brigade got the information came from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Mati.
A landslide occurred in Tagobon, Lucatan in Tarragona town in Davao Oriental, he said.
In Davao City, the Department of Transportation said the airport and seaport sustained no damage and continued with their normal operations.
The agency added that based on the intensity meter installed at the Philippine Ports Authority-Davao, Sasa and nearby areas only felt Intensity 3.(MindaNews)
